This is the same coach who made India the champion and resigned. Indian cricketers won the 2011 World Cup under the coaching of South African veteran coach Gary Kirsten. Gary Kirsten was made the head coach of the white ball cricket Pakistan team in April 2024. He resigned from his post after about 6 months.
Wicketkeeper and batsman Mohammad Rizwan was made the captain of the team. This was announced at a press conference held in Lahore on Sunday 27 October. Due to which there was an atmosphere of happiness among the fans. Mohammad Rizwan is 32 years old, he will start his first captaincy innings against Australia. At the same time, Shan Masood will captain Pakistan in Test matches.
Gary Kirsten left the post of head coach
Pakistan team coach Gary Kirsten, coach of the T20 and ODI team, resigned from his post. Kirsten was appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board on a two-year contract in April 2024, but he resigned from his post after just 6 months. The shocking thing is that he did not coach a single ODI match. Under Kirsten’s coaching, the Indian cricket team won the World Cup in 2011. Now Jason Gillespie will coach the white ball team on the Australia tour to Pakistan. Gillespie is the head coach of the Pakistan team.
The PCB had taken the team selection rights from Gary Kirsten. This right was only with the selection panel, of which he was not a part. Kirsten was said to be angry for this reason. His opinion was not taken even to make Mohammad Rizwan the captain of the Pakistan team, due to which he was very angry. He has not yet made a public statement.
He was feeling isolated in view of the growing influence of the current selection committee. After losing the first Test match to England, Pakistan announced a new selection panel, which included Aaqib Javed, Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq and Hasan Cheema, while the coach and captain were removed from the selection panel.
The late announcement of the team and captain for the Australia tour was a result of the turmoil going on in the board. Gary Kirsten wanted his suggestion to be considered. When the new captain Mohammad Rizwan was announced at a press conference in Lahore, the new selection committee members Aaqib Javed and new captain Rizwan and vice-captain Salman were present with chairman Mohsin Naqvi. But by then Gary Kirsten had left Pakistan.
